For the weeks of January 26th through February 16th: UCI MIND Institute & the Fight Against Alzheimer's University High School's T-Shirt Design Winner

Alzheimer's is the most common form of Dementia and millions of Americans suffer from it. The MIND Institute at UC Irvine is dedicated to finding a cure for this debilitating disease. This year’s 3rd Annual "Time of Your Life" fundraiser takes place on Saturday, March 3rd in Costa Mesa. This fundraiser is key to making sure that the MIND Institute can still conduct important research towards finding a cure. Also, tune in to find out how a University High School Marching Band member designed a t-shirt for a national competition to win important funds for her school. Tune into Cox Forum to find out more.

For the weeks of January 12th through January 25th: OC Teens: 'Overtaken' by Prescription Drugs

According to the in Orange County Coroner's office, in the last 4 years, there has been over 400 overdose deaths in teens and young adults ages 15-24. That’s 400 deaths too many, according to 2 mothers that feel this epidemic has gotten out of control. Jodi Barber and Christine Brant accomplished their goal of making a short length documentary featuring the struggles of addiction through the lives of young adults. Now they work tirelessly to get the message out to schools and youth groups that abusing prescription drugs is no way to live, and certainly no way to die. For the weeks of October 27th through November 9th: Food and Gifts for the Needy this Holiday

Now, more than ever, there are residents in Orange County who are in need. Many people are putting their limited incomes towards the basic necessities such as rent, utilities and gasoline to get to work, but finding they don’t have enough left over to put food on the table. Two local area food banks are gearing up for a crucial holiday season in order to store up and distribute food to Orange County residents in need. Also, the Marine Corps are not only serving their nation this holiday, they’re also working hard to make sure that needy Orange County children will still receive special holiday gifts. Artists of Tomorrow Contest - Cox Cares Non-Profit of the Year - Scare Away Hunger
at the Great Park

In these tough economic times many organizations are doing their part to make sure that art programs are still alive in our public schools, that children of abuse and neglect are being looked after, and that our local food banks are financed and replenished. The "Artists of Tomorrow" contest brings many organizations together to help keep art in our schools, especially with the recent government cutbacks and lay-offs in the school system. Cox Communications awarded 10 non-profits with donations gathered by the company's employees. "Royal Family Kids" was the top winner of this year's grants. Finally, the Orange County Great Park is holding their annual "Scare Away Hunger" event on October 22nd to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. Tune in to Cox Forum at 7pm to learn more.

"20th Annual Komen Race for the Cure" & "Prostate Cancer Awareness Month"

For 20 years, Orange County residents have been turning out in the tens of thousands to walk for a good cause: to find a cure for breast cancer. On Sunday, September 25th, Fashion Island in Newport Beach will be the location for a day of running, walking, fun and support.

September is also Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Regular prostate exams for men are vitally important and new technology at Mission Hospital is helping to bring the number of prostate cancer cases down. Tune in beginning September 15th to Cox3 and find out more.

Cox Cares is calling for OC nonprofits to submit applications for a 2011 Grant. 10 organizations will be chosen as finalists and one will be designated as Nonprofit of the Year and take home $10,000. For the Week of July 7th: "Start Smart" Program with the CHP

Getting a driver's license opens an exciting new world of possibilities to teens, but that world is not without risks- over 6,000 teens die every year in car related accidents. Hear from the CA Highway Patrol about their program designed to teach teens and their parents how to be safe on the road, and from a local family who tragically lost their daughter in 2005 in a car accident and the program they created in her memory. Cox Communications in Rancho Santa Margarita will be hosting a free "Start Smart" class for all interested parents and teens who want to learn more about being prepared and educated about the dangers of teens behind the wheel.
